For years now people of Stafford, Staffordshire have been crying out for the county town to have a radio station of its own. The nearest radio stations to Stafford are Signal One and Signal 2 based in Shelton, Stoke on Trent and BBC Radio Stoke, based in Haney, Stoke on Trent. But since February 2007, when Signal One dropped ‘Stafford’s own breakfast show from it’s schedule, these stations now rarely mention Stafford and mainly concentrate on the five towns which make up Stoke and the Cheshire area, including Crewe. They provide an excellent service to those areas, but sadly Stafford is often overlooked.
As Stafford is the county town (and possibility the last county town in England not to have it’s own home based radio station) and has a population of around 64,000, many people think it is about time that this town has it’s own permanent radio station providing locally produced programmes, local news, sport and information presented by local people who know and live in the town.
