I started Djing in 1988 as most of us did, doing mostly mobile, local bars and the odd nights at Staffordshire Uni (leek road).
In 1991 I joined the MIX FM team at BBC Radio Stoke where I was part of the team until my first club break in 1994.
You guessed it the Reynolds bar (Student night) taking over from a very good DJ friend of mine Mr Andy Copeland who moved to first leisure. I inherited more nights at the Reynolds and started the now well remembered “Rnb selection” on Thursdays along side Matt Smith and Paul Anthony’s antics in the Attic.
Still continuing with at least 1 night at the reynolds (until 2001) I ventured to other clubs including Chambers Wolverhampton, The Dome in B’ham, Orleans and Rosie O’Briens working for another reynolds old timer a Mr Adrian Bates. My time was spent more and more with First leisure working with them all over the Midlands and the North West.
I had a brief spell with Springwood Leisure working the club part of Zanzibar Newcastle in 1998. Along with Student nights at Fluid Hanley, JFK Hanley, Jongleurs Nottingham I then had the priveledge of opening Liquid Hanley before moving out of reynolds completely to open First leisures new flagship club, Creation in Leicester.
My final venue before retiring was Atlantis Wolverhampton but I did have the pleasure of working guest spots at some of the premier Dance events, festivals and Rnb events working along side acts such as the Trevor Nelson, The Black Eyed Peas and Dru Hill. I even had the priveledge of meeting and soul icon of mine Ms Jocelyn Brown. I still fondly reminisce about the Reynolds as it was my start in this fantastic environment and met so many great people there. Highlights were probably the early Rnb thursdays (Reynolds) and the Friday Dance anthem nights (Attic) where I had the fortune to host and work with some great guest DJ’s.
Now a days I still keep my hand in playing at the Bi- monthly “Anthemia” events in North Staffs run by great people Nick Sheldon, Deb and Chrissy B. They even had their birthday bash on the Mersey Ferry and i’ll never forget DJing on that, oh not forgetting the odd Fantasia appearance with the Old Skool Massive.
Love to you all.
